To me reading the play Hamlet was an enjoyable experience. The play is set at Elisiner, the royal court of the king of Denmark. At the beginning of the play, the emotions are kind of dull and I really wasn’t expecting much action out of the play. Maybe another Grapes of Wrath kind of book. I became very intrigued thou as soon as Hamlet spoke with the ghost, Hamlet seems like a new man, he was all drooping around and now he act like he actually has a purpose in life. It is very unpredictable at that point; I started thinking could the ghost be a demon lying to Hamlet or is it really his father, could Hamlet be hallucinating, or maybe it is some kind of mass hysteria. The play gets a little deeper and interesting when we begin to learn more about the characters. The sidekick Polonius nosey tactics to find out information and you learn of Hamlets insanity scheme. The dense Ophelia who is so dazed and confused by the whole situation. Mostly all the important characters are introduced and you can make judgements upon all of them. There are some lines where you really get mad and wonder why Shakespeare added them into the play, it almost seems as if he changes his style. The end was completely unpredictable and fast. I believe he wanted to end the novel quickly so he made the end to Hamlets plot and decided to kill everyone except the best friend. I really enjoyed reading this novel and picking apart a masterpiece, but I do wish the ending would have been drawn out more.
Recently, I had an experience much like an event that took place in Hamlet. I notice there is an all around tie to revenge in Hamlet. I have had the same drama in my life and of course with modern day terms, all drama begins with a girl. Me an my ex-girlfriend broke up with non-speaking terms, meaning we really didn’t care about each other and we will act like we don’t know each other; She then said she wanted to be friends just to get information and talk about me behind my back. She made a lot of bad rumors and lied to a lot of people causing trouble between any girl I was trying to talk to and my friends. She ruined my reputation and was rubbing my name in the dirt, I needed revenge. I made a unique plan to hurt her where it counts so I got a group together who knew for a fact she was spreading lies about me. We went down to the office and told all the rumors to the principal. I hardly thought this was the action for the NHS president and I didn’t think it was setting a good example for the school. The principal could have taken action right there but I decided to tell her to wait and see if my ex made up any more rumors, but I couldn’t help myself. I asked her to stop talking about me and of course she said she could do anything she wanted, HAHAHA. “Well I said” you can say anything you want because I have all ready spoken to the principal and at the word of you saying anything else about me, you and your NHS presidency are gone. The a huge smile came upon my face as she began to cry knowing I now had the power and could unleash fury anytime. This story compares to Hamlets story in the whole revenge factor. We both had something dramatic happen to us and something bad came out of it, Hamlets father’s murder and my breakup. When we both found out who was making the false statements or who the murderer was, we constructed a plot to get them back. We Both finished are plot knowing that we had avenged are goals and are plan was complete. So in the end we both got the last laugh and let the weasels crash and burn.
While reading this play I observed that one person’s actions lead to another’s downfall. Several of the characters and entrusted with the duty of restoring there families honor and taking revenge on another who has done them wrong. Claudious sets up his downfall as the snake poison’s Hamlets father in the garden. This leads to the ghost being trapped in purgatory and appearing outside the castle in battle gear and telling his son to avenge his murder. Hamlet kills Polonius by accident thinking it was his father’s murderer spying on his from the blinds, when he was speaking with his mother. This downfall lead to another as Ophelia can not handle all these emotions and commits suicide. The killing of Polonious also cause Laertes, son of Polonious to seek revenge on Hamlet for killing his father. Claudious also wants to kill Hamlet so his order is not broken in Denmark.
