Gran Turismo A-Spec is responsible for my love of cars. This video game has inspired my love to drive, and work on cars. I also found my dream car in this video game. Gran Turismo A-Spec (GT for short) is a car racing simulator. You may participate in many different races to try to win so that you can advance to other races and win money. Does this sound like any other racing game? Well this game is so good that it inspired my love of cars and no other game could have done that.


First, I will explain exactly how the game is played. You start out with about seventeen thousand dollars to buy a car to race with. After you buy your first car, you race with it and gain money to increase the car’s performance. As the game progresses you can buy better cars and get more money and participate in different races. You may also race on tarmac tracks in a circuit similar to the Monterrey Grand Prix. You may also race on dirt tracks in a circuit similar to the World Rally Cross circuit. The game has more than three hundred different cars that you can drive and you may participate in more than two hundred races.


The cars in the game are real cars that you may see on the road or on a race track. The upgrades for the car are actual upgrades that you may buy for your own car. Some of the races are also real. Many different companies donated money to the game and there are signs advertising them on all of the courses. Each course is a real course that is used somewhere in the world. The game is a perfect simulation of driving, and you can even buy a steering wheel and pedals to increase the simulation. The manual that comes with the game is written by Skip Barber, owner and founder of the number one racing school in the world. I feel that a person could learn to drive with just this game and when they actually get in a car do just fine and pass a driving test.


GT showed me how much fun driving a car can be. Other than just driving in a circle like in NASCAR or plain driving as if I was going to work. I learned about turning using the handbrake and sliding the back tires out. I can also drive better in the snow because of the Rally circuit in the game. I eventually want to go to a rally school and get a rally license. When I get a lot of snow (I am from Connecticut) I take my car out to a huge parking lot and practice losing control and gaining it back. Gran Turismo helped me become a better driver. I would never have believed a video game could do this.


This game also taught me about how I can make a car perform better. I can add things to the engine such as a new air intake pipe or a turbo charger or NO, Nitrous Oxide, (to name just a few). These items increase the horsepower of the car making it accelerate faster and have a higher top speed. There is one problem with adding power to the car and that is the brakes will need to be replaced with stronger ones and also the suspension will need to be tuned to match the new settings of the car. All of this is very expensive. A turbo charger can cost up to three thousand dollars. A new suspension can be seventeen thousand dollars and an NO set-up could be about five thousand dollars. That is just for the performance of the car. Also, items can be bought to increase the look of the car. Lights can be put almost anywhere on the car. A body kit can give the look of a new suspension for a fraction of the cost. A full body kit can cost about fifteen hundred dollars, which is much less than the suspension. With a body kit and lights a car can be brought to a car show and you can win money there. Once I get a car I will first add engine parts so that I can win money in races and then I will add items to increase the appearance of the car.


In this game, I found the one car I want more than anything else in the world. It is a 15 Mazda RX-7 Touring Edition. What separates this car from others? The fact that it is the only car to ever be built without any pistons is the main reason I want one. The RX-7 has a rotary engine instead of an engine with pistons like a V6 or V8. The best way to describe it is that it works kind of like a spirograph. It is very difficult to explain. The RX-7 comes with two hundred and forty-nine horsepower when you first buy it. With about ten thousand dollars it can be raised to about eight hundred horsepower and then with a shot of NO it would jump to more than one thousand horsepower for a few seconds. This car is very sleek looking and would please anyone’s eye to see the car driving down the road. The RX-7 has been known to dominate the street racing world for many years.


I learned all of this information from a video game. I consider it possibly one of the greatest video games ever made. This game gave me a love for driving, and working on cars, and also I found my dream car. Eventually I would like to race cars in a world rally circuit or in the European V8 Supercars series. Thanks to Gran Turismo , I have started on my way. This game has been my biggest inspiration and is one of my favorite games to play.
