These treaties allowed Britain to trade with China’s coastal ports and later eventual they also signed treaties with Westerners and other Europeans. At the same time a foreign Mong dynasty was in control of China, which left the Chinese people wanting indepence. The success of the Chinese in keeping their culture while in a land that was foreign was a key element in their success.
